JOB PURPOSE

Supervises technicians across multiple shifts in the Site Engineering department. Assesses technician skill level and provides tailored learning and development opportunities. Prioritizes and schedules daily work through the Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Drives continuous improvement process by executing 5-Why process and leveraging other lean tools as needed. Leads Kaizen improvement venues to drive the business forward. Aligns with cell engineers to understand business initiatives, upcoming cell work, projects and other active Kaizens. Proactively communicates to customer base about the status of open repair items, upcoming work, and departmental initiatives. Sets clear expectations to direct reports, provides timely feedback about quality of work, holds team members accountable to expectations and recognizes and rewards excellent performance.
Contributes to ensuring safe working practices are followed and drives standardization of the workplace. Shares ownership in achieving world class performance and continuous improvement of production. Accountable for helping to achieve strategies and goals of becoming the world class, low cost/high quality producer of choice.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Prioritizes, plans and schedules daily technician work including corrective, project and preventative maintenance plans, working closely with the CMMS team, and verifying completion progress. Tracks technician scheduled work adherence as a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) and provides guidance and feedback to address performance gaps. Performs periodic quality of work audits of technicians and provides timely coaching and feedback to address gaps to expectations. Maintains technician work schedules and is responsible for adjusting work schedules due to business needs. Controls the need for overtime work by maintaining technician schedules, spreading workload, and by proactively anticipating technician demand changes. Develops team by maintaining clear expectations for technicians, providing coaching, guidance and accountability when needed, and champions, rewards and recognizes good performance.
2. Supervises and directs the activities of technicians to effectively troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, maintain, and repair and positively impact machine reliability according to GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) and safety practices; includes commercialization support involving revisions to machine, method, material and technician processes. Available for consultation during major equipment outages in order to minimize impact to plant production needs. Proactively communicates to customer base and provides updates about outages and ensures that outages are coupled with countermeasures that prevent the issue from reoccurring.
3. Develops mistake-proofing devices, controls, and procedures for production lines. Champions and drives Kaizens and improvement projects utilizing structured problem solving tools such A3 reporting, 5-Why, PDCA, DMAIC, etc. Challenges each technician to identify and implement improvement projects in their areas of ownership and throughout the facility. Partners with the CI group for consistent approach to improvement project work and implementation.
4. Monitors an Equipment Maintenance Program to ensure equipment is maintained according to the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) specifications. Partners with the CMMS team to schedule PM and corrective work for his team. Drives equipment owners to review and update PM procedures on a yearly basis and after major breakdowns. Broadly communicates team KPI’s to customer base and drives action plans to close gaps.
5. Supports the successful completion of machine reliability projects both minor and major, expense or capital-based. Identifies areas of opportunity and suggests projects that can increase efficiencies, reduce costs, eliminate waste/scrap, increase quality of production, and eliminate safety issues.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Education Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering, plus
Experience 5-7 years of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, welding and/or production equipment maintenance experience, including 5 years of supervisory experience required to direct the activities of a technical staff.
1. Must possess thorough technical knowledge of high speed, highly automated packaging equipment. Must have general knowledge of LEAN principles to include Autonomous Maintenance, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and associated training tools such as Work Point Analysis and Control Plans.
2. Must have problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in order to analyze equipment problems and isolate specific causes.
3. Must have the ability to communicate effectively in order to interface with multiple internal customers as well as equipment vendors, contractors, and others to meet project requirements. Must have the ability to utilize courtesy and tact in interactions with department and Company personnel in the exchange of information and resolution of problems.
4. Must have demonstrated human relations skills to successfully resolve operational problems and human relations concerns.
5. Must have a thorough knowledge of manufacturing regulations in order to conduct routine housekeeping and GMP walk-thru, monitor SOP compliance, monitor safety compliance and implement corrective actions.
6. Shift or schedule change may be necessary due to changing business needs.
