Group Leader Skin Care Research
JOB PURPOSE
Trains and supervises Skin Care Research (SCR) laboratory team. Accountable for planning, developing, coordinating in vitro testing and supervising the Skin Care Research laboratory to support innovation, product claims, registration and market position/story for ingredients and product technology such that support is accurate and supported by statistically significant scientific data.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Supervises the SCR ingredient technology scientists. Coordinates pre-clinical (in vitro) evaluation of active ingredients for claims substantiation both in-house and off-site. Helps design and coordinate in-house in vitro evaluation and study protocols for in vitro efficacy studies. Write reports describing results (data) of in vitro efficacy studies and reviews, provides input, and approves study reports from technical staff. Plans and executes complex and difficult technical and analytical projects requiring advanced levels of knowledge, experience, and understanding of the inter-relationship of the technical problem with all working groups within the organization. 30%
2. Serves as a technical project leader to provide supervision and guidance for other technology scientists. Trains other Scientists and Technicians on laboratory techniques and appropriate test methodology. Serves as a technical advisor for technology transfer and process evaluations. direction, supervision, and training to Lab personnel to ensure that the labs are maintained in a manner which is consistent with Good Laboratory Practices and the accurate completion of projects within established time deadlines. Reviews performance of and provides counseling to laboratory employees. Ensures lab staff is trained and adheres to Lab Safety practices 30%
3. Evaluates and applies novel technology to the resolution of technical issues. Knowledgeable of a wide range of in vitro biology techniques and methodologies applicable to solving complex problems Deliver technology platforms for new product development (NPD) calendar projects. Remains abreast of current developments within the field of skin biology and technology advances for unique product claims to benefit the skin. Work cooperatively and develop partnerships with other groups as part of new product development to maintain project scope and deliverables within timeline constraints. 20%
4. Works cooperatively with team members from other departments to ensure successful attainment of objectives and fulfillment of missions. Maintains an awareness of project plan timelines, production timelines, and back-order potential while solving technical problems and issues. 20%

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Education MS/Ph.D. degree in the Life Sciences.
Experience 5/5 years of progressively responsible work experience in a biological testing function and/or a claims substantiation group with management experience.
Must have well-developed technical skills (knowledge and practical experience) in skin physiology, biochemistry, histology, statistical analysis, and cell culture methodologies.
1. Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience or demonstrated leadership / management skills
2. Must possess excellent writing skills and exceptional computer skills, including proficiency in MS office programs, including EXCEL worksheets and statistical analysis.
3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required to provide technical guidance to Scientists and to prepare formal presentations of laboratory testing.
4. Ability to independently perform assignments with only general criteria for expected results and exercise considerable latitude in determining technical objective of assignments.
5. Must be able to operate a wide variety of equipment use in laboratory research, recommend in vitro techniques and their availability from outside test laboratories.
